Give Yourself The Gift of Trails

It started with a vision and Construction Manager Drew Perkins’ extraordinary feel for contours of the land. (Bogdan Marian)

Can you remember mountain Biking in Santa Cruz five years ago? No Emma McCrary Trail. No Flow Trail. No Enchanted Loop re-route. No pump track or jumps at Harvey West. No Old Cabin Classic. Kinda sobering eh?

Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz is the primary driver of each one of these efforts.

We’ve built tremendous credibility with our local land managers and have gained momentum toward expanding our trail network. We’ve legitimized mountain biking by planning, organizing, and just plain getting stuff done! And although we’ve accomplished much, there’s still more work to be done.

Sponsored by Mick’s Automotive at Soquel Demonstration State Forest

Last Saturday, November 19th, sixty volunteers joined MBoSC to work on drainage and basic trail maintenance in Soquel Demonstration State Forest. Huge thanks to the crew who made it out to work despite the wet weather. You did an amazing job!!

This Dig Day was sponsored by Mick’s Automotive, your local full service repair shop for Japanese automobile services. Mick’s has been a dedicated supporter of MBoSC.

We would also like to thank our other sponsors, Verve Coffee Roasters, for their generous donation of coffee, especially on such a cold morning, Velocity Bike Parks for the awesome sandwich wraps and snacks, Praxis Works and X Fusion Shox for putting on an extensive volunteer raffle, and CAL FIRE. These wonderful businesses help MBoSC show our volunteers how much we appreciate their contribution to trail development in our community.

Watsonville Pump Track

2A Pump Track for Watsonville

Santa Cruz has already realized the benefits of pump tracks in just a few years; safer and more confident riders, explosive talent development particularly among youth, and opportunities for individuals to help develop public recreation resources with their time, labor and funds.

Now it’s Watsonville’s turn. MBoSC has been plugging away at developing a pump track for Watsonville for nearly two years and it seems that we have gained traction with both the pro-bike Mayor Felipe Hernandez and the Parks and Recreation office there.

Keep checking our weekly newsletter for the announcement of building and funding opportunities in Watsonville in the next month as we nail down site and design specifics with the city of Watsonville’s team!
