West Engelsmans Reroute

COMPLETED IN 2019

SCMTS built 5,500 feet of singletrack in Wilder Ranch State Park and restored sensitive prairie habitats in the process.

In the fall of 2018, SCMTS partnered with the Santa Cruz District State Parks Trails Crew to reroute the existing West Engelsmans Fireroad in Wilder Ranch State Park. In addition to constructing 5,500 feet of new singletrack trail for hikers, cyclists and equestrians, SCMTS also decommissioned the existing road and restored it to sensitive coastal prairie habitat.

Hundreds of local volunteers assisted with the development of the West Engelsmans reroute project. After a lot of brushing, poison oak clearing and rock armoring, we were able to open the trail in May of 2019.
