We discussed the club finances. At the time, there was $477.82 in the checking account at Coast Commercial Bank. The bank let us set up the account as a non-profit, so we pay no fees. Also discussed was where money was spent so far-extra ranger patrol for second raffle as well as T-shirts.
Dawn Weathersbee is organizing a regular group ride and will lead the beginners. Keith will lead the advanced riders. The date for the group ride is set for August 9th. It was agreed that two or three first aid kits would be purchased with club funds before this event.
Pogonip was also discussed, along with the upcoming (at thetime) meeting at the city council chambers. David recommended that we all call our city council members to state our support for multi-use at Pogonip. The phone number for the city council is 429-3550.
Gray Whale Ranch was a highlight of the meeting. MBOSC raised a total of over $31,000 towards the purchase of Gray Whale Ranch! State Parks told Keith that they would do an opening ceremony of some kind and would like our participation. Education classes on bike riding techniques were suggested, and David stressed the importance of good relations with other trail users. Keith urged everyone to send letters in support of multi-use to Robert Ueltzen of CA Department of Parks and Recreation.
Keith, David and Chuck Beebe from the Horsemanžs Association met with Dave Vincent, the new District Superintendent for State Parks. They reported having a good meeting with him. Dave Vincent said he would like to see more mountain bikers chip in with money, possibly with an annual pass for $75. He also cautioned MBOSC about creek crossings, which could become a hot spotū due to the endangered red-legged frog.
Jim DeAlba reported on his meeting with Keith, Dave Vincent and Assemblyman Fred Keely. Fred is a triathelete and rides mountain bikes. Fred also stated that he is in favor of multi-use trails.
Keith reported on his meeting with Maggie Fusario of UCSC. Maggie is in charge of all the uplands at UCSC. She stated that all singletrack has been closed except the one creek trail off Heller Drive to the uplands. All fireroads are officially open. She specifically asked that we not ride the numbered/par course as that is an environmentally area, and would go a long way in good public relations for our group. MBOSC has stated that we want to work with them, but at a reasonable levelãand that we would not support closing any singletrack.
Al Blum, ranger at Wilder Ranch, is putting together a docent patrol of mountain bikers. CPR is required. Caroline Murphy is certified to teach CPR and is willing to do a class at minimal cost. If interested, please contact her at 426-6612.

Keith stressed the importance of paying your club dues. Mel, Chuck, Bob and Pat agreed to help make phone calls when necessary. Mel will organize the team.
