The Responsible Organized Mountain Pedalers (ROMP) are the oldest off-road cycling advocacy group in the Bay Area. Presently, we have about 400 members who are concerned with trail access in the San Francisco South Bay and Peninsula regions. To accomplish our mission of leading the participation of mountain cyclists in the trail community, we work with local cycling industry leaders, government agencies, and other trail user groups. Such work is necessary to protect our rights to our public parks and open space.
ROMP is made up of volunteers, not paid professionals. We give our time because of our love for the sport and belief that we can make a difference in our community.
Some of the programs we use to accomplish this are:
- Trail education stations
- Clinics and rides
- Fund raisers, including our annual swap meet
- Special events
- Participation in volunteer patrols
- Trail building and trail maintenance
- Presence at public hearings and meetings
- Participation on local trail committees
Trailworkers.com is a volunteer organization based in Santa Cruz County California, comprised of individuals and participating organizations dedicated to preserving and enhancing our system of trails in public parks. Trailworkers.com acts as an information center for trailwork in Santa Cruz County, promotes trailwork and recruits volunteers, helps plan and coordinate projects with land managers and partners, and train crews and crew leaders. Through trail stewardship, Trailworkers.com aims to keep our existing trails open and well maintained, and open new trails in our parklands whenever possible. We strive to partner and build cooperation with other trail use groups to achieve our objectives wherever possible.
Trailworkers.com is committed to:
- Maintaining and building trails for use by all.
- Training crews and crew leaders.
- Educating all park users in the value of land stewardship by caring for our trails.
- Consulting with land managers on the mitigation of problems.
- Being a trailwork information center for trail users and supporting organizations.
We believe multiple use trails are a viable solution to the problem of increased demand by all user groups for recreational access to a limited amount of public land in Northern California. We believe that all trail user groups-- hikers, equestrians, and cyclists -- can get along and learn to share and care for our precious parkland resources. Trailworkers.com is here to support our trail system, and build a sense of community amongst all user groups who share our goals. We can make a difference.
The Monterey Off Road Cycling Association (MORCA) is an organized voice for responsible mountain biking in Monterey County. We accomplish this by advocating for mountain bike trail access, maintaining area trails, and sharing good will with other trail users. We are involved in mountain biking advocacy at all levels of the community.
For many years our program has provided many incentives for thousands of commuters to travel a better way - to travel by bicycle. By producing a fun, inclusive, informative, and interactive program, we have accumulated many accomplishments:
Phenomenal Growth In Bicycle Commuting
- 50% increase in Bike to Work/School (BTW/S) Day participation over the past 3 years
- 5971 kids, teenagers, students, families, and adults bicycled on BTW/S Day in 2005 despite the rain in Spring
Bolstering Confidence & Road Skills
- Bike lights were given to 500 cyclists and 350 area residents attended our bike safety classes
- Helmets were given to 150 low-income youth and deserving adults
Building a Positive Public Image for Cycling
- Front-page articles and photos on bike commuting
- Positive and pervasive coverage included: TV News, Radio ads, Newspaper & magazine ads, Street banners, Color posters, brochures & flyers
These efforts contribute to cleaner air, healthier kids, less traffic, safer streets, and a friendlier community. Bike to Work has accomplished this with the help of thousands of volunteers, participants, and supporters. Our work benefits Santa Cruz and now we need your help for Bike to Work to continue to grow.
Bike to Work's goals:
- Increase the number of kids, teenagers, students, and adults biking to work and school
- Expand our bike safety education effort
- Project a positive and inviting image of bicycling in the local media and through grassroots outreach
- Advocate for improved bicycle facilities
Velo Bella is a non-profit, grassroots, multidiscipline cycling team based out of Watsonville, CA. But we're now national and international!
The Velo Bella mission is to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle through cycling and laughter. We inspire women to get out and ride a bike, race a bike, and to eventually grow the pool of talent and have a lot of fun along the way. While the core Velo Bella Team is a committed group of female racers, membership includes female cyclists interested in completing their first race, century, or even group ride.

The Northern California Mountain Biking Association is dedicated to maintaining and increasing trail access for Northern California mountain bicyclists by unifying and leveraging the resources of existing grassroots organizations and promoting the development of new organizations.
