Prompted by the vast scope of MBoSC’s latest project—a 4 mile flow trail at Demo!—which will need highly skilled and dedicated volunteers to accomplish, the club is conducting a trail work and crew leader training series.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to the completion of this project and potentially serve as a crew leader, we encourage you to attend these training events. There will be both classroom sessions and field based exercises discussing trail design, construction, and volunteer management.
Classes will be held in the evenings in both Santa Cruz and the San Jose area, and field training sessions will take place in Demo. Additionally, we will take field trips to the Emma McCrary Trail here in Santa Cruz and the Endor Flow Trail at Camp Tamarancho in Marin to gain a deeper understanding of flow trail design and construction.
Crew Leaders must complete the series before being assigned to independently lead a trail construction crew on the flow trail project. You will receive a course binder and various materials at Class 1. Once you have completed the series at Class 5 you will be awarded a very special Crew Leader swag bag that will allow you to be dressed and equipped for leadership success!
ROUND THREE SLATED TO BEGIN 11/19/13
With two rounds of this popular training series completed, a third—and most likely final—series is currently being planned. All are welcome to attend and the classes are free!
The current schedule calls for for Class 1 (Trail Design) to be held Tuesday 11/19/13 and Class 2 (Trail Construction) on Tuesday 12/3/13. These classes will be held in Campbell, at the offices of Camarush starting at 7:00pm. Classes 3, 4, and 5, and various field trips will be on future dates TBD.
If you would like to attend one or both of these classes, sign up by sending an email to email@example.com ASAP so we can get a head count for materials.
NOTE: If you attended any of the training classes but couldn’t attend class 1 or 2, and these dates don’t work for you, please let us know. We want to give everyone a chance to complete the training series if possible.
