Important Announcement About October’s 2nd Sunday Club Ride (10/13)

We’ve got a fun twist to our monthly club ride at Demo on Sunday, October 13. As you may already know, Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz is hosting the2013 BELL Santa Cruz Super Enduro that weekend to raise funds for Santa Cruz area trails, such as the 4 mile flow trail we’re about to break ground on. The race itself will run on Saturday, October 12 (trails will be closed to the public) and will be followed on Sunday, October 13 with a Play Day that includes bike demos, pro-led rides and shuttled trail work.

  • FREE BIKE DEMOS (10am at Camp Loma) – Try out enduro-specific and all mountain bikes ideally suited for the trails at Demo courtesy MarinNorcoSanta CruzSpecializedTrek (Epicenter Cycling).
  • FREE PRO-LED FUN RIDES ON COURSE TRAILS (rides start at 10:30am / meet at Camp Loma at 10am) – Santa Cruz local pro downhill champ and Dirt Series coach Kathy Pruitt and Pivot Cycles / Osmo Nutrition pro cross country and enduro rider Macky Franklin will show riders a great time and share their own riding experiences.
  • SHUTTLED TRAIL WORK – potentially on the new Flow Trail! (time TBD) – Give the Demo Forest back some love. Participation in trail work will get you free shuttle rides (courtesy Shuttle Smith Adventures) – stay tuned for details!

We will park at the Demo parking lot at the usual time (9:30 or so) then meet at Camp Loma to hang out with like-minded riders and get hooked up with a demo bike if you are so inclined. Note: in order to give people a chance to check out a demo bike, our ride will start at 10:30 this month. We’ll sort out ride groups once we’ve all gathered. Please help spread the word and bring your friends!

Expect intermediate to advanced rides with trails that feature extended climbs and sweet downhill single track. Our usual Demo club rides tend to come in at 15+ miles and 2500+ feet of climbing. For those wishing to experience the SCSE course, expect 20+ miles and at least 4500 footies. The rides will be social/no drop in nature, with regroups after long climbs and descents. After the ride, we are likely to hang out to enjoying delicious beverages and tell tall tales of our rides, and then head over to the Summit Store for more beverages and awesome food.

If the one day of knobby tire stoke isn’t enough for you, sign up for the Santa Cruz Super Enduro Camping Package (details on SCSE website) and join fellow revelers in celebrating the spirit of Enduro and all mountain riding. The SCSE is a weekend-long event filled with racing, riding and rad activities to enjoy with good friends, on some of the best trails in Santa Cruz. Although race spots sold out just over 2 hours from registration opening, this event welcomes spectators and volunteers, so please consider one or the other… or both! What a great way to be involved in this highly-anticipated, popular event.

This fun-filled weekend will kick off with rider and camper registration on Friday, October 11. Saturday’s race will be followed with dinner, beer, awards, an outdoor double feature (Anthill Films’ Not Bad & SecondBase Films’ ArrivalPLUS live music – all included in the SCSE Camping Package (plus more!). On Sunday, race participants can check out other routes, session sections, demo new rigs, and ride with non-racing pals; non-racers can put themselves in the cleats of the racers and compare times to the official results, with their own rig or by demo’ing a dream bike. Pro riders Kathy Pruitt and Macky Franklin (Pivot) will be leading rides on course trails, and Shuttle Smith Adventures will offer shuttle rides to trail work participants.
