Exciting news! We will be having our first workday on the new Pogonip Multi-Use Trail on Saturday, May 12th at 9am. We will be meeting at the bottom of U-Con and will work for 3-4 hours. You can park at UCSC and ride/hike down U-Con or park on Hwy 9 and take Rincon Road or the Rincon Connector trails. Let me know if you need better directions.
We will be using hand tools to begin clearing out the trail corridor, vegetation, and duff to prepare for the trail machine to come through and cut the bench. Poison oak will be present, but there will be some areas with minimal poison oak and some other work that will let you avoid it all together (rock collecting). Please bring long pants, sturdy footwear, and gloves and be prepared to take the necessary precautions for poison oak (change of clothes, etc., we should have technu and some stuff to wash up with).
We will be starting at 9am sharp so please be on time and take into account the time it takes to get to the bottom of U-con. Please sign up at www.trailworkers.com to assist with planning (the earlier the better). Also, please fill out this volunteer survey. If you can bring loppers, small pruning saws, rakes or McLeods let me know at email@example.com. I am also looking for a few people to be crew leaders or help with setup and planning, email firstname.lastname@example.org if interested and we can talk more.
We will post more workdays soon. The details not not been worked out yet but we will likely have two evening workdays during the week (probably Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, 5:30-7:30 or so), and if you are available during the day on weekdays there will usually be opportunities for work. When the machine is running in a couple of weeks it would be great to have at least 5 people out working with it. Please contact me if you would like to work during the day on weekdays.
Look forward to seeing you next Saturday!
