The Santa Cruz Parks department has proposed a 1.5 mile single track multi-use trail which would connect Golf Club Drive to the U-Con trail at Rincon Road. This scenic family and beginner friendly trail will connect downtown Santa Cruz to Upper Campus and will be a much more pleasant experience than riding along Hwy 9, the train tracks or parking at the Rincon Parking lot.
The approval of the Pogonip mutli-use trail will be on the Santa Cruz City Council agenda in late March. This trail was proposed as a long term solution to the problems of transient camping and heroin dealing that had taken root in the area. There is an organized opposition to this solution who fundamentally oppose bikes on trails.
This trail is the most important issue for the long term expansion of legitimate mountain biking in Santa Cruz County.
