Surfrider Cafe to Benefit for Trips for Kids Santa Cruz

On Wednesday June 22nd, the Surfrider Cafe will host a community night (day!) to benefit Trips for Kids Santa Cruz. A portion of the proceeds from the day will benefit Trips for Kids Santa Cruz.

Trips for Kids Santa Cruz is the latest T4K chapter and MBoSC is the sponsoring/parent organization. Our focus for Trips for Kids Santa Cruz is to take at-risk and disadvantaged youth in Watsonville out on mountain bike rides. We want to provide them with an alternative to a gang lifestyle by providing heathy and positive outdoor experiences. The national program has been successful in mitigating childhood obesity and providing health alternatives to youth boredom.

We hope to have a T4K SC website soon at http://tripsforkidssantacruz.org but in the mean time you can look at the national Trips for Kids website and a recent interview with Allison – President of Trips for Kids Santa Cruz – in the Sentinel.

About Trips for Kids Santa Cruz

Trips for Kids Santa Cruz is a non-profit chapter that serves at-risk youth, ages 12-18, in Santa Cruz County for mountain biking adventures. We will be working closely with our local probation department and child abuse system to serve the most at-risk youth in our county. We would like adolescents to have another outlet for their energy, a different focus than drugs, poverty and gangs, something that would give them an adrenaline rush without violence, and that would also empower them in a healthy way. Mountain biking is also a healthy, fun way to combat obesity that plagues many of the youth in our community. Learn more about us at TripsForKidsSantaCruz.org.

In the meantime, we hope we can see you at the Surfrider Cafe located on 429 Front Street in Santa Cruz on Wednesday June 22nd.
